What does it mean if a designer is an ASID designer?

ASID is a community of people driven by a common love for design and committed to the belief that interior design, as a service to people, is a powerful, multi-faceted profession that can positively change people's lives. Professional members of ASID must pass rigorous acceptance standards: They must have a combination of accredited design education and/or full-time work experience and pass a two-day accreditation examination administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Through education, knowledge sharing, advocacy, community building and outreach, the Society strives to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively change people's lives.

Its more than 36,000 members engage in a variety of professional programs and activities through a network of 48 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 1975, the American Society of Interior Designers is the oldest, largest and leading professional organization for interior designers.

ASID inspires and enriches its members by promoting the value of interior design, while providing indispensable knowledge and experiences that build relationships. The Society's 18,000 practicing interior designers work in all areas of both commercial and residential design. ASID Industry Partners include more than 2,700 member firms with some 7,500 individual representatives, uniting the professional designer with manufacturers of design-related products and services.

The Society's membership also includes more than 10,500 students of interior design. ASID has student chapters at colleges, universities and design schools with 2-year and 4-year programs throughout the U.S. and "virtual" chapters through Rhodec International and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online.

Amanda knew she wanted to explore interior design when she began writing her high school senior project paper on the theory of color, and how it effects the mood. She realized that she could manipulate a space to create a particular feeling and enjoys working closely with each client to create their ideal environment.

She attended American River College before completing her education online. Amanda began her career designing custom window treatments, then worked as an assistant designer for a large design firm. In 2003, she created Mac Design and bravely moved to being an independent interior designer, which has allowed her the creative freedom to work on multiple full-scale design projects. She also enjoys working on small-scale projects that allow for closer collaboration with clients.

While skilled and experienced in all genres of design, Amanda surprisingly doesn't claim a favorite style. "I really have a broad spectrum of design style so I leave my personal preferences out of the equation. I really love seeing a design come together that really reflects what the client wants," she explains. Amanda always adds an unxpected element to her designs to ensure that each project has a signature look. She has multiple repeat clients but most of her business is referred. Amanda values each individual relationship with her regular clients and is always flattered when they reccomend her to a friend.
